I have to say, the idea of a French themed coffee shop, bakery, restaurant with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, unique fruit based pastries and a very positive level of energy from the entire staff is refreshing. You may not be able to spell the name, but you will enjoy the experience. The smell of fresh pastries, wine bottles on the shelf, refreshing drinks and open seating inside and out will warm you up immediately. With free wifi and an IPad for free use on the counter, you can stay connected as well. If you want a light pastry or a wrap or salad, you will not be disappointed. Excellent stop.

Went back this weekend and happened to experience some pretty bad customer service. The wait staff seemed to be in complete chaos. Girls were wandering around with plates of food trying to figure out which customer was which, when everyone had a number on their table. We were brought another customer's food at first. From there all of our meals came out at different times. The food was still very tasty, but the service killed it a bit. We had to wait 5 minutes to get a refill of tea at the counter because it took multiples girls to help one customer at the dessert case- 1 to explain in detail each and every dessert and 1 to hold a pastry box in preparation for when the customer eventually made their selection. I'm glad the food is still good but they need to get their staff in check. On a Saturday at lunch there was a good crowd but it wasn't exactly packed.

having never been in a french cafe before, i'm not the most qualified reviewer. +1 very clean inside. -1 for how they handled our yelp check-in deal. my wife was set on claiming her free crepe, and the staff was very patient with us as we fumbled to log in on my wife's yelp iPhone app. once we finally got it, the app then indicated the terms of the deal: after 3pm, and on orders of $15 only. it was 2:50pm, and our order was $12. we weren't looking for an exception. however, it would have been nice for the staff to just tell us the terms of the deal before we wasted our (and their) time trying to get everything situated. if you're going to offer a check-in deal, please educate your staff on what it is; else, it's not accomplishing your goal. +1 for tasty food. i'm not the best judge, but my wife enjoyed what she got. +1 on our way out, one older gentleman on staff offered my wife a free cookie, perhaps as a peace offering for the earlier transaction. he didn't have to do that, and we appreciated the gesture. my wife told me after we left that french cafes have a reputation for being terse, impatient, and sometimes rude. maybe not par for the course, but perhaps birdie. *** EDIT *** +1 for receiving a comment from the owner, in response to this review. -1 for the owner changing the story. for the record, we didn't change our mind on the crepe. store staff refused it ... as they should have (we weren't spending $15, and it wasn't yet 3pm). as i mentioned above, we weren't looking for an exception to the rule. any discount is more than fair, in any economy. and for that, we're grateful. also, the owner's math assumes that each of their 400 patrons attempts to use the check-in deal. the incentive of using check-in deals is usually to garner honest feedback on one's business.

We have Sunday brunch here very often. It is fabulous food. Our favorite is their berry crepe , we sit outside and watch the world go by. Their staff is so very pleasant and the owners make you feel like you are part of their family. I also love their salads with house dressing. This morning my husband had the panini and he really enjoyed it. We love it!!!!!

My pre-conceived notion of this place was a sit down restaurant but, it's actually an order at the counter and your food is brought to you type of situation. As soon as you walk in you're greeted by a glorious patisserie case and a friendly french man to explain the inner workings of each one. As tempted as I was, I knew I had to eat regular food before even considering the case of desire so I moved along. Although my eyes kept glancing back, I pushed forward and ordered a Californian with a side salad and an Americano. After sitting down with my café, I checked in on Yelp and realized they have a check in offer for a free sugar crepe. I attempted to redeem it but, it was late in the day and crepes are apparently not available after a certain time. I wasn't about to complain about an item that was being offered for free anyway but, the owner immediately stepped up and offered a croissant to take home as a consolation prize... booyah! My late lunch was great and very fresh. Now that all those healthy greens had passed my lips, it was time to go back for the case. I had a pistachio macaroon on the spot, which was gone before the car was started, and I took home a piece of chocolate cheesecake which turned out sweet and rich and excellent in every way. I'm looking forward to making my way back to try other sandwiches, crepes, and breakfast options, but most importantly, everything else in that case!

Food was ok but they don't seem to be very organized. Misplaced my order and took a very long time to rectify it. A generally unsatisfactory experience.

This is the first time I tried this little cafe, encouraged to do so by a friend who insisted they had the best crepes. I was not disappointed. The coffee was fresh, there was an entire case of baked goods drawing your attention as you walk in, and the crepes on the menu ranged from sweet crepes with berries and sugar to filing meals with salmon or prosciutto. The atmosphere was very nicely European, with tables outside for when the weather was nice. Depending on what you want - pastries and coffee, or a meal, you can spend anywhere from $5 to $15.

If you love crepes, quiche and panini ... check out SDM right away ... they open at 7:00 Mon- Sat and 8:00 on Sunday. I had a slice of bacon, blue cheese and onion quiche that melted in my mouth (and came with a choice of fresh fruit cup or salad (I had the latter). SDM also sells 'real' ice coffee (not coffee watered down with ice cubes). Tip... don't leave without purchasing one of the delicate French pastries that called out at you when you arrived:)

I'm bumping my review up to 5 stars because it's obvious they've been reading their reviews and have made some slight adjustments. * The hours listed on Yelp have been updated. This may have not been them but regardless, good to see the correct hours listed. * I went over the weekend (like I normally do), and they gave me a number when I placed my to go order which eliminated that previous awkward "is this you?" exchange when they'd give me my order. * They also told me that my coffee would be ready to be picked up by the register in a couple of minutes. Basically, all my little qualms in my previous review were fixed, which is really awesome that they took note and already changed things so quickly. I also got around to trying the macarons. So good. The pistachio ones are my new favorite thing.

It's true - this small bakery/restaurant is a real gem. The owners and employees are wonderful people. There are few restaurants here (or anywhere) where the owners are so actively involved in the front of the house. I tried a ham and butter sandwich on a crusty baguette - a sandwich unknown in the states but quite popular in France. C'est magnifique! It could not have felt more French if I was wearing a beret and walking a dog. For dessert I had a slice of triple chocolate mousse cake. I love chocolate mousse but I rarely order it out since most American restaurants or bakeries make it too heavy and sweet. But this is authentic mousse made by real French people. Heavenly!! This establishment deserves its high rating. The bakery items on display are more like works of art than items to eat.

Just a quick stop in to get some macarons...I heard about this place from a friend who stopped by the other day. I stepped in and saw the pastry display and thought I had died and went to heaven! The menu looked divine and the crepes were very tempting. The staff is amazing, all very nice and attentive. I gathered it was a family run establishment and the owners waited on me from start to finish. Very polite and professional. I grabbed a dozen macarons and two mini croissants and was in and out rather quickly considering the crowd of people also salivating over all the options! The macarons are quite possibly some of the best I've ever had and my current title holder is Bouchon. The shell was perfect, crisp and moist and the filling was equally amazing. My favorite has always been pistachio and they did not disappoint! Bravo pastry chef! I live in Summerville, so its quite a drive, but I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

So glad we found this on yelp! We rode our bikes over to Saveurs de Monde (flavors of the world) last Saturday for breakfast. I was surprised by the number of people who had already found this gem, but we were still able to order quickly. We ordered two different types of crepes, and both were delicious. Went back up to order a one of the Nutella filled pastries and was glad I did because it was delicious as well. I guess the place is run by a French family, all of whom are very friendly. It's great to have an authentic French cafe so close by - we'll be back soon!

WOW, OMG, France has come to charleston. The pastry heaven you have been looking for. Crepes, eggs, pastry to die for. I don't want to spoil this for you. If you're thinking of a trip to France, stop here first and get your fix. Now all we need is an Italian pastry shop !! Fran G

Hands down, the best place I have had a first time visit to in a very long time. The. Nicest. People. Own. It. Father, mother, children. Forget all stereotypes you have heard about French people and their *attitudes* - these folks will prove all that completely wrong. From first greeting to register service (more on this later) to table visit...parfait! Mom had heard a lot about it and sampled one of their pastries at bridge club and we decided to go Thu to really try their stuff. Absolutely worth it and the prices are about as good as you can do for a place like Panera or even much fast food. Seriously. The menu is extensive enough but well selected. Quiche, soup of the day, three Panini choices, a few tartines (open faced sandwiches), and both sweet and savory crepes. For example re the costly reasonability - a slice of quiche with a side salad of mixed greens and tomatoes in a nicely large serving is $3.50. A pick two quiche plus salad is $5.50. You get the idea. All Panini and tortes come with a side selection of the same and range from $8.50 to $10.00. And the sandwiches are HUGE. Speaking of Panini sandwiches, Dad and I both got the chicken one with artichoke hearts fontina, sundried tomatoes and pesto. Absolutely delicious. We both got their salad as the side and highly endorse Valerie's vinagreitte (their "house") as the dressing of choice. Like a balsamic vin but way better than most I've had. Dad ate all of his (it was after a long golf day, so...) and I only managed a QUARTER of mine, shared with Mom and had the other half for dinner and then bfast later! Mom got the ham and egg quiche and salad; she loved that quiche and plans to try a pick two next visit. Note- the quiche slices are somewhere between small and medium sized, if you can picture that. On to pastries and desserts. What can I say? Short of a true Patisserie, in France, I haven't seen such a selection. Definitely NOT at Henri's, International Bakery, etc to my Atlanta friends, to note. Basically everything you could want. We loved the (veryyy large) chocolate brownie (note- it has nuts) and there are just....so many other things to try. From a ham and cheese croissant to tartlets in a whole slew of flavors, to perfect looking macaroons to....note: they make ALL their own pastries. Talking to the owner was only second best to visiting with his charming daughter, Alia (not sure on spelling). There's something about this girl (maybe 11 years old?) that is completely intriguing and inviting, and definitely mature beyond her years. Clearly astute at reading people, courteous without being obsequious, just - something unique and special. Coming soon (as in today or next Mon) - dinner service. After that, projected time to be serving wine at dinner is about a month. This place is going to do gangbusters, I just know. (Note- not yet open Sun but according to owner will probably be for dinner once executed). Great location, a perfect kind of place for the Charleston/Mt Pleasant/IOP crowd, smart and engaging owner (also very polite yet frank- only person I saw on my visit who actually asked, somehow un-horrifiedly, what had happened to my face to make the left side look like a gargoyle. Much appreciated.), oh oui - and excellent food. Bon chance, mes nouveaux amis!

Fabulous, delicious pastries! Tried the white chocolate passion fruit, delish. Get the swan cream puff cuz it's so darn cute! And the blueberry macarons- OMG! It's a must stop, especially if you are headed to Isle Of Palms- it's on the way!

Saveurs du Monde is fantastic spot for breakfast or lunch, the friendliness and fresh food has kept us coming back time and time again. My wife and I are regulars and have just fell in love with this place. When you first walk in you will discover a very extensive pastry bar. All food at SDM is made fresh each day, yes this includes pastries. Grab a croissant, danish, muffin, tart, or cake. There are many varieties to choose from and there is always something new. They also make great tea, cappuccinos, and brewed coffee. We regularly drink cappuccinos and Americanos which are always good. If you have the strength to resist their excellent pastries then you can order a crepe, quiche, open face sandwich, panini, or salad. I have had each of these and they are all quite good. Incredibly fresh food with lots of little touches. For instance my salad came with tiny bread squares which have been toasted with fluffy goat cheese on top. Normally I find goat cheese to be too heavy or strong but theirs was excellent and has converted me. There are many small touches like this that make your experience all the more enjoyable. It is worth mentioning that once you order, they give you the drinks you ordered and a they will bring your food to you. There is no waiter or tipping making for a casual and friendly experience. They really listen and care as well. I ordered a panini with no tomatoes the other day, and when it was brought out to my table they also removed the tomatoes from my salad which I had forgotten about, but they still asked if it was ok that they removed them. This establishment is owner-run (and yes they are French) with the owners cooking the food and behind the counter to greet you, a rarity these days. The chef even walks around to greet the patrons and make them feel welcome or offer a free pastry puff. The staff are incredibly friendly, patient, and won't rush you when you are trying to choose from their large menu. Oh and another thing, everyone seems genuinely happy to work there. With a friendly atmosphere and incredibly fresh food that puts many of the local spots to shame, Mount Pleasant really lucked out with Saveurs du Monde. Visit them for brunch and bring your friends.

Im updating my review and lowering to 2 stars because while the pastries are delicious. Ive been 3 times and the service was horrible all 3 times. I only went back the 3rd because my sister said I mustve just hit a bad day. I do see alot of other great reviews so idk maybe. However when I went in with my friend we were literally the only 2 people in there and I left a review about the service. The workers were just distracted with other things and their own side conversation. The owner sent me a compliment stating they appreciate my observation during their "rush time" I didnt realize that 2 people on one order was rush! Great food and good selection when you come in the morning. Prices are also very fair for the deliciously tasty pastries. I wouldnt tell someone not to come here because the pastries are worth it and who knows maybe youll get better luck with the service :)

Reviews are raving for this place, so we were super excited to try it for breakfast today. Maybe we just didn't get the right thing, but no one in my little family was overly impressed. I had the almond French toast, it was only ok. I wouldn't order t again. I do think we would come back sometime, their pastry counter looked out of this world, so maybe next time...

Finally a French bistro run by a real French person. We were told that the chef and patissier is French as well. Crepes are authentic. And what I mean by authentic, the savory crepes are made of buckwheat and from scratch, to order. So often I've been to creperies here in the US, where I see someone pulling a pre-made crepe out of a bag or a sweet crepe is used in a savory preparation. That's not how it is in France! I had the quiche of the day, which was delicious and similar to what my French mother makes. I would say that the patissier (pastry chef) probably needs a few more years to hone his skill, but certainly by American standards, everything looks appetizing and from what we tasted was good and authentic. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other pastries, which sell out fast, so get there early.

Good food and nice selection in a bright atmosphere, but workers need to wear hats as I found hair in my food. Also, they need fans as restaurant is very hot and stuffy.

We stopped here for a latte and coffee. The latte was great but they don't have non fat or 1%, only 2%. The pastries looked amazing. If we didn't already have breakfast we would have tried one. The kitchen is open and you can watch the Creoles being made and they looked mouth watering! Very friendly, family run. Open for only about 1 1/2 months and they are from Germany. Wishing this was not the last day of our vacation or we would surely have come back to eat breakfast.

This new bakery is a outrageous new addition to Mt Pleasant . Until now, there hasn't been a bakery that I have ever eaten twice in Mt. P. The restaurants pastries are to die for, and plenty of variety. . The Swan puff pastry equals any of the puff pastries that I had in Rome, Italy. The owners are French and although somewhat hard to understand, it just adds authenticity to the place. . In addition to the pastries, the ham and cheese croissant was delicious as well as the dark chocolate, coconut and strawberry crepe. A+++ to this new restaurant!

Good news: incredible, authentic French pastries. Bad news: hard to resist. Lovely owners...my husband & I have frequented this little jewel more times than we care to mention . We can't wait until they open a central bakery with the promise of producing French baguettes! Welcome to the neighborhood!

Truly terrific place for a quality breakfast! We made a reservation via Yelp and they had our table waiting with a sign with our family last name (even though I'm not sure we needed to reserve in advance). The cappuccino was very well done (foam, not milk), the crepes (sunshine, ham&cheese) terrific and the quality of the desserts the best ones I've had in US (I had a Napoleon and my kids two types of chocolate mousse). Also the personalized conversation from the owners did make a difference.

Great little gem in Mt Pleasant. I was surprised to hear about an french cafe so we went to check it out. The service was great and the food was excellent. Stopped in while shopping, desperate for some coffee. What a cute place! I got a cup of nice, strong coffee and a chocolate mousse/cake dessert which was lovely. Their prices are very reasonable and the selection looked great. If they'd had the A/C on higher, I would have stayed for hours!

I like the butter baguette with salmon, red onions and capers. I tried another flavor bread pudding and it was great as usual. There are few lunch spots that I consider my go to places in Mount Pleasant. This is one of them. The owners and their daughter are really nice.

The only reason I came here after the last visit was because the pastries were good. Well now after eating a Napoleon with chunky custard, I can safely say this was the last chance. We stopped before the beach on a Friday morning and the looks we got for coming in with kids were hilarious. The woman at the counter wanted to make us order just so we'd go away? She kept thrusting the paper menus at us while we were trying to look at what was in the case. In the end, we ordered several items which didn't get finished and left the store. I felt unwelcome for coming in with a group and the one thing I ordered was not good.

Perfectly respectable. A bit like Jamba Juice's idea of a café. The perfect place for the stay at home or retired person to have perfectly respectable french pastry and quite good coffee. It lacked a bit being in a strip mall and the ambiance was a little too squeaky clean and proper. It could use some soul. Maybe some francophone music or just a little something special. I did have a delicious ham and gruyere croissant.

Such a nice place with a magnificent atmosphere, created by hardworking, creative people! The deserts are truly good! I had an opera cake and blueberry tart and they were delicious!!!! And I should say about coffee: European coffee lovers will find it very tasty! It's a real coffee! How it should be! Will definitely recommend it to all my friends!

Loved our Sunday brunch of toasted ham & cheese croissant, and special-of-the-day savory breakfast crepe, stuffed full of potatoes, red peppers, onions, and lots of cheese! Excellent cappuccino, too. Staff was friendly, layout is sleek but comfortable, and the interior was clean. We took home a pastry and some chocolate covered strawberries to enjoy later that night. All were very good. I foresee a 5th star in SDM Cafe's future.

I was really looking forward to this place given its reviews and ratings, however I was not impressed. The food took nearly 30 min to come out (even though it was not very busy), coffee taste like burnt hotel coffee, but I think the elderly lady serving at the registers, who really needs to work on her patience, was the key factor in my overall negative experience. She was making people feel stupid the way she responded to innocent menu questions. It's really hard for me to enjoy my meal when service is bad. I will say that the Quince Lorraine was not bad, a little overly salty but good. The fruit that came with it however was not fresh (brownish color). Because of the infrequency I visit this city, they will unfortunately not get a second chance in winning my business.

This is the real deal. What a great little place for breakfast or lunch - or for grabbing some great desserts. They have a fantastic selection of pastries and sweets, as well as a nice breakfast / lunch oriented menu of things like savory crepes, quiches, French toast, etc. My only gripe is the cappuccino, which has so far been closer to Turkish Coffee. If you like to chew your coffee before swallowing, order up! Note, this is a true family-run business. I like supporting these independent family places, and this one is certainly worth supporting. Great food, friendly service. Check it out!

So delicious! We've had a huge range of items--quiche, sandwiches, desserts. None of them have disappointed. We live literally next door in the Riviera at Seaside apartments, making it all too easy to pop over for fresh macarons or croissants. The staff are always lovely and friendly.

This little family owned French bakery is a must stop when you're in town. My best friend and I were in Charleston for vacation and looked up an area for a quick lunch. All the reviews were raging on and on about this little place so we obviously had to check it out ourselves. The location is in a cute little shopping center where you can walk around and enjoy the area. The restaurant itself is clean, well lit, nicely displayed pastries, and friendly staff. I ordered the smoked salmon tartine with a side salad with the house mango vinegarette dressing. The smoked salmon was perfect with the most perfectly baked and toasted bread. My best friend got the chicken panini with the house salad dressing. Hers was absolutely delicious as well. I've never been to France but this little French bakery tasted pretty darn authentic to me (I guess the French people talking behind the counter made it seem like I was in France really helped haha). We had to get the some pastries while we were there of course. We got the French macaroons and chocolate croissants. The macaroons were so delightful with the soft but hard shells and the filling was so light and fluffy. The chocolate croissants were so flaky even though we had to eat it the next day, only because we had an amazing lunch there. Let's just say we will definitely be back when we are in the area.

My husband and I stumbled upon this delightful French cafe when we were looking for a quick lunch spot. The owners and staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. They gladly accepted my Yelp offer for a free crepe. The caprese and Norwegian (salmon) paninis were delicious with melty cheese and chewy toasted bread. The basil and the apricot thyme macarons were awesome. Will definitely be back next time we are in town!

In a word... fantastic. Finally, a European style café in Mt. Pleasant. I was ready to have one of each from the pastry case, but will have to pace myself by going back on regular basis to sample everything. Macaroons were out of this world, Napoleon was flaky and light. More to come ;)

Fabulous, delicious pastries! Tried the white chocolate passion fruit, delish. Get the swan cream puff cuz it's so darn cute! And the blueberry macarons- OMG! It's a must stop, especially if you are headed to Isle Of Palms- it's on the way!

We enjoyed a fabulous brunch and especially loved the crepe w/smoked salmon. And the croissants, brioche with bacon crumbles, macaroons, exquisite pastries and cappuccino! We found this place thanks to Yelp while vacationing in Isle of Palms. We stopped here 3 days out of our 5 day vacation if that tells you how good it is!! The first day we came for lunch. My husband had a chicken salad croissant and I had the Roma Tartine- bread with fresh mozzarella, parmesan, prosciutto, basil, and olive oil. Both delicious!! We stopped by the next day to pick up desserts for the family... You must try the macaroons!! My favorite was the pistachio, my husband's the lemon. We are got a Napoleon and a chocolate eclair too.... Everything was a hit!! We stopped by there again on our way back home to North Carolina for breakfast. We all got the Classic bacon, egg and cheese croissant which comes with fresh fruit. ... And I also had to have one last pistachio macaroon! The coffee was some of the best!! Overall- great local place with friendly owners and staff. It's obvious they put a lot of thought into every detail of their restaurant. Just wish there was one of these places back home, but we will definitely stop back by next time we are in town!!

Great little neighborhood spot. Perfect breakfast and lunch. Lots of French restaurants have opened lately, but this one gets it right! Beautiful pastries. Lovely staff/owners. Try the house dressing on your salad. Fresh, light, flavorful carefully seasoned with freshest herbs. Yum! Can't wait to go back.

  • Alex H.

We got the chicken panini with artichokes and the Mediterranean savory crepe. We loved them both! Generous sizes, and done with lovely French flair. My latte was on point!

So delicious! We've had a huge range of items--quiche, sandwiches, desserts. None of them have disappointed. We live literally next door in the Riviera at Seaside apartments, making it all too easy to pop over for fresh macarons or croissants. The staff are always lovely and friendly.

Saviors of my world! If you have been to Paris, you will know how much you need to appreciate this cafe. We had the apricot & apple croissants - both were fresh, flakey & flavorful. This gem of a place is hidden away behind Target before you take the Connector to IOP. Make sure to seek it out!

Good news: incredible, authentic French pastries. Bad news: hard to resist. Lovely owners...my husband & I have frequented this little jewel more times than we care to mention .

Wow! What a wonderful establishment! This new bakery/cafe/coffee shop is the real deal. It's a little slice of European heaven right outside of Charleston. We enjoyed a fabulous brunch and especially loved the crepe w/smoked salmon. And the croissants, brioche with bacon crumbles, macaroons, exquisite pastries and cappuccino! (Only thing I'd skip next time is the caprese panini.) Definitely get a "to go" bag of goodies to take home.

The crepes were a failure! Nothing like what it is supposed to taste or look like! Macaroon were good, but thy didn't taste like pistachio ....It seems this is more of dessert place than to have a meal... I haven't tried other pastries... I was just disappointed about the crepes.

The pastries are amazing!! My grandmother is a huge mocha drinker, and she did not like her mocha but everything else was great!
